Personalized Learning 

At PL Prep, we use blended learning, a combination of traditional and online learning strategies, to develop a learning environment that challenges all students to excel. Our students demonstrate their knowledge through comprehensive and relevant assessments, and they receive frequent feedback to help them track their progress. To increase student engagement, we structure our classrooms to encourage meaningful interactions and diverse learning opportunities that promote student ownership of their learning and accountability of their progress. Our teachers strive to create an environment where students can identify their strengths, areas for growth, and aspirations. Empowering students to take ownership of their learning and advocate for themselves is critical to students' academic success at PL Prep.

Students demonstrate learning through rigorous and relevant assessment and engage in frequent feedback cycles to improve.

Students operate in a learning environment that nurtures a growth mindset, a sense of belonging, and student-led accountability.

Dual Language

Students are grouped in Bilingual Pairs in order to learn from each other's language strengths.  The pairs work together at designated times to better understand content lessons, learning stations, and/or research centers.  These partnerships foster accountability, collaboration, and empathy in our students.

Our research-based, standards-aligned instruction allows students to learn at high levels while building global awareness and developing a global perspective.  Hands-on, interactive Dual Language lessons and activities keep students engaged and take them deeper into grade-level skills and concepts.

Students in our program apply their language learning in a child-centered environment that fosters global leadership skills through technology, creativity, and critical thinking.  It is through this experience that students are truly able to demonstrate mastery of learning.

 

AVID

AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination—fosters a safe and open culture, high expectations for teachers and students, and collaboration in all classrooms.

Our AVID teachers instill academic behaviors and critical thinking skills in young students, creating a positive impact in later grades. PL Prep students learn essential habits that promote success in middle school, high school, and college. They gain knowledge in organization, study techniques, communication, and self-advocacy, all presented in a challenging yet age-appropriate manner. AVID students take structured notes and participate in high-level discussions, encouraging them to ask and answer questions that go beyond the ordinary.

At PL Prep, we work towards cultivating a culture that values higher education and motivates students to explore their college and career options. Our teachers provide a strong academic foundation, enabling our students to identify their path towards success in college and career. Being an AVID elementary, we understand the importance of bridging the opportunity gap early on.
